EuroSCORE

The European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation (EuroSCORE) uses risk factors to predict death after cardiac surgery.

An online calculator is available at www.euroscore.org. Two risk calculators are available on this website: the simple additive EuroSCORE and the full logistic EuroSCORE.

The simple additive EuroSCORE model is easy to use and gives a useful estimate of risk in individual patients. However, particularly in very high risk patients, the simple additive model may sometimes underestimate the risk.

The full logistic version of EuroSCORE provides a more accurate risk prediction for a high risk patients. However, the calculations are complex.
