Gustilo Classification (open fracture)

The higher numbers indicate more severe injury:

Grade I: Low energy, wound < 1 cm
Grade II: Wound > 1 cm with moderate soft tissue damage
Grade III: High energy wound > 1 cm, extensive soft tissue damage
Grade IIIA: Adequate soft tissue cover 
Grade IIIB: Inadequate soft tissue cover
Grade IIIC: Associated arterial injury
