Le Fort Classification

In 1901, Rene Le Fort described three distinct fracture patterns:

Le Fort I: The palate is separated from the maxilla
Le Fort II: The maxilla is separated from the face
Le Fort III: Complete craniofacial dysjunction


The Le Fort system is also a guide to the placement of osteotomies in the midface.
