New York Heart Association Classification
The New York Heart Association Classification was developed in 1964 as functional and therapeutic classification for patients with cardiac disease.
Class I
No limitation of activities and no symptoms from ordinary activities.
Class II
Slight, mild limitation of activity; they are comfortable at rest or with mild exertion.
Class III
Marked limitation of activity; they are comfortable only at rest.
Class IV
Confined to bed or a chair; any physical activity brings on discomfort and symptoms occur at rest.
